"Welcome to Five Senses Coffee"

For the second year running many of the staff at Five Senses decided to get onboard the well publicised fundraising event — Movember.

Movember is a fundraising event where men grow their facial hair for the month of November with the interest of raising money for men’s health, such as men’s depression and prostate cancer. Unfortunately the Movember name has been shrouded by quite a bit of controversy this year as the owners of the word ‘Movember’ are said to be taking a large percentage of the raised funds for the use of the ‘Movember’ word that they’ve trademarked.

It is because of this controversy that the participating men at Five Senses are donating their raised funds to a more appropriate charity within the coffee industry — Coffee Kids.

When contemplating the Movember event, the creation of some rules seemed appropriate. The event began with all of those participating having to shave on 31 October. Then … as many of the Five Senses guys are quite follicley challenged when it comes to facial hair, the best part of two weeks was spent just growing. Then once everyone had enough facial hair to work with, the shaping began. Most guys stuck with a goatee for about a week, with a few being a bit more creative with a groomed beard and Brad doing some chiselled concoction that looked like he belonged on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. It was at this point that Jordan piked on the whole affair as he was in fear of the ‘baby face’ and ‘you look like a 12 year old’ comments again, as until two weeks prior, he had not been clean shaven for many years and his clean shaven face caught everyone by surprise. From the goatees everyone then spent the final week with the ‘chopper’ mo.

“It was very interesting the different response people give you when you’re donning the chopper mo — people are scared of you,” said Rich.

The shaping then culminated at the Five Senses Christmas Party on 1 December, where everyone gathered together to celebrate the year of 2007. With disposable shavers on stand by, it was only the hardcores that lasted the night with their mos, while most of the guys were clean shaven by about halfway through the night. Partners were happy again.
