The Coffee

Sensible Questions

I. What kind of beans are in 5 Senses coffee?

Broadly speaking, there are two varieties of green beans: arabica and robusta. 5 Senses coffee is made from 100% premium arabica beans. From Papua New Guinea to Mexico, Colombia to Costa Rica, Brazil to Ethiopia, and countless lands in between, our pursuit of the greatest coffee beans in existence is relentless.

II. What is in a 5 Senses blend?

5 Senses is 100% unadulterated premium coffee. We combine premium beans to create unique and magnificent blends and roast them to the precise moment where their richness can be enjoyed and their flavour protected. We manipulate roast profiles to suit individual tastes.

III. Can the nature of a roast change the flavour of a bean?

Absolutely! The roast affects the aroma and acidity of the bean, bringing out the best in the bean or destroying its potential. Roasting temperature and the duration of the roast have a major effect on the flavour. Because we vary our roast temperature and duration, we can tailor the roast to the taste of the individual.

IV. What region produces the ‘best’ coffee?

Great coffee hails from nearly every geographic region – whether or not you enjoy the coffee is a totally different story. Take a tour and try different coffees to find a perfectly balanced coffee that meets your expectations of what a coffee should taste like.

V. Does it matter whether my 5 Senses coffee is ground or in whole beans?

Yes, considerably. The greater the surface area exposed to the air, the quicker the roast will deteriorate. Ground coffee can deteriorate within an hour of roasting. Whole beans, stored correctly, can last 10-14 days.
