The Coffee

Learn the lingo

Coffee shares many similarities with wine in terms of how it presents on the palate. Also, the characteristics of coffee (just like wine) differ greatly depending on its origin, how it was tended to by the growers and how it was processed by the mill. The coffee industry has a language to help define coffee and its characteristics. These include: acidity, body, aroma, mouthfeel, finish and flavour.

All of these descriptions are as important to a cup of coffee as the strings on a violin. Just as beautifully executed concerto can resonate fabulously in our ears, a coffee that contains a harmonious balance of body, acidity, flavour, mouthfeel, aroma and finish will equally become memorable on our palate.
